Located near the queen of hills- Mussoorie, Top Tibba lies in Garhwal Himalayas. Garhwal region once was ruled by the Panwar dynasty. The surrounding hills of Mussoorie region served as buffer zones and pathways for trade and pilgrimage between the Garhwal Kingdom and Yamunotri region.
The name 'Top Tibba' suggests a hilltop. Due to its height and reverence, it was given the name Top Tibba. Locals say that this is the place where rishi-muni (sages-saints) meditated and performed deep penance. As per some folklore, a large footprint of the Himalayas (as a deity) is believed to be the abode of gods.
During the British period (in the early 19th century), when Mussoorie was being developed as a colonial hill station and summer retreat, many lesser-known and less-explored places like Top Tibba, became tourist destinations. Today it is loved by trekkers due to its easy hiking, offbeat trails and rich Himalayan views from the top.
