Campsites of Har Ki Dun Valley - Where to Pitch Your Tent in Paradise

As the summer sun starts blazing above our heads, don’t you feel like running away to a chilly place that is calm and filled with nature’s freshness? Well, I have been thinking exactly the same!

If you are also sailing on the same boat, let me give you an option of a magical place which is located in the mountains: the Har Ki Dun Valley.

Har ki dun Trek is like that hidden gem in Uttarakhand's Garhwal region that is famous for trekking, camping, beautiful views, and huge green carpets, often called Bugyals. Plus, it even connects to another beautiful valley called Baspa Valley through a high pass named Borasu Pass.

This valley is pretty high up, about 11,700 feet above the sea. That's why it is wrapped in snow from October to March. And, during the rest of the year, it is a dreamland of alpine trees, wildflowers, and scenic rivers.  There is even a temple of Lord Shiva in the last inhabited village.

Must-Visit Campsites of Har Ki Dun Valley

Here are some of the most wonderful places where you can pitch your tent during the Har Ki Dun Trek:

1. Taluka

Your Har Ki Dun Camping adventure starts from this place.  It is usually the first stop after you leave the hustle-bustle behind. Taluka is a tiny village that is surrounded by dense forests of deodar and walnut trees. As you set up your tent here, the gurgling sound of the Supin River and chirping birds will accompany you.

2. Seema / Gangaad

Just a few hours from Taluka, you will reach Seema and Gangaad. These are the two cozy villages where you will find charming little wooden houses and the sound of a river flowing nearby. This campsite is perfect if you want to interact with locals, see their traditional homes, and get a real taste of mountain life. So, often trekkers take a good break here.

3. Osla Village

Next up is Osla! It is a truly special place nestled in the mountains. Here, you will see how the local people live and their colorful houses. There are even stories of connections to the Mahabharata. Further, the highlight here is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is built in an old Himalayan architectural style. So, you can feel the spiritual vibes as well!

4. Kalkatti Dhar

Kalkatti Dhar is one of the most peaceful spots on the Har Ki Dun Valley trek. From here, you can see the snow-capped peaks in all their glory, and the valleys stretching out below. So, pitching your tent here feels like you are on top of the world.

5. Har Ki Dun Valley Campsite

This is what you came for! Camping right in the Har Ki Dun Valley is an experience you will never forget. This valley opens up like a natural amphitheater because it is surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks like Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Hata Peak. Set up your tent under a blanket of stars at night and just take it all in.

6. Boslo

As you make your way back or want to explore a bit off the usual route, Boslo gives you another incredible spot to camp in the Himalayas. From here, you can also capture Jaw-dropping 360-degree mountain views. And the best part is that it might be a bit less crowded, so you can enjoy the feeling that "I’m the only one here."

7. Maninda Tal

If you are lucky and the route permits, you can set up your tent here. This place really feels like it is straight out of a fantasy movie. Maninda Tal is a small lake hidden among rocks and surrounded by snow. And waking up to the still waters reflecting the surrounding mountains will be the best thing you will experience.
