Introduction
As a Trek Leader, Dayara Bugyal trek has been one of my most memorable experiences, and I am excited to share my journey with you through this blog. Dayara Bugyal is a high-altitude meadow, located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India. This trek offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges. The trek is perfect for beginners as well as seasoned trekkers, with a trail that takes you through dense forests, gurgling streams, and vast meadows that are adorned with colorful wildflowers during the summer months. In this blog, I will take you through my experience of leading a group of trekkers on this beautiful trail, highlighting the challenges we faced, the sights we saw, and the lessons we learned along the way. So, let’s begin!

Why you should choose Dayara Bugyal Trek
Located in Uttarkashi one of the surreal places in Uttarakhand, this trek starts from two villages Raithal and Barsu, village Barsu itself is very picturise, if you have a short duration, you can choose Barsu as the starting point of your trek, in both sides trails are well built, it gradually increases height and the whole path is not very steep which give you more space to enjoy your trek, if you choose Mid-March to April month you can witness rhododendron in full bloom, on your summit day after crossing tree line approx. 1km from Chilapada base camp you will start witnessing Mt. Bandarpuchh, Mt. Srikanth, Mt. DKD, and Mt Gangotri so close that you will feel you can almost touch them from here the whole trail is in meadows till Dayara Top.
Things to Take care of: –
➢ Dayara Bugyal is in height of 12,500 feet approx 3800 meters, and from 3000-meter-high altitudes so whenever you choose any high-altitude trek make sure you don’t get dehydrated intake adequate water, and acclimatize well, coz from 3000-meter oxygen level start decreasing your body needs proper acclimatization.
➢ If you are choosing October month, make sure to carry a thermal base layer that is breathable and sweat-resistant, woolen socks, and a cap.
➢ Dayara Bugyal has no litter policy so make sure to carry all your trash back to the Land field, although whenever you go on any trek make a habit of taking back all the trash for a sustainable and long-term trek experience of the particular trek.
➢ Carry trekking shoes for better grip on the trail, a head torch to walk easily around the camp area at night or for a night summit, a trekking backpack of at least 40-50 letters, and a day pack.
➢ Dayara Bugyal is a beginner’s trek anyone can go for this trek but if you want to enjoy your trek, then make yourself physically active before going to any trek (do some running, long walks, and cardio) this will help you to do your trek stress-free.
Trek Overview (Duration, Distance, Best Time)
This trek can be done in 5 days from Raithal or 3 days from Barsu village
➢ From Raithal you trek to Gui base camp which is approx. 6 km on your day, after spending a night in Gui base camp you can proceed to Chilapada base camp on your 2nd day which is approx. 2km.
➢ Then from Chilapada you proceed for Dayara in top early morning this day will be long as compared to other days as you trek approx. 7-8km going top of Dayara then decent down to Barnala tal camp, stay overnight, and leave next day for Barsu village approx. 4 km downhill.
➢ From Barsu you can trek to Barnala Tal base camp which is approx. 4 km stay overnight, next day proceed to Dayara top approx. 4 km and back to Barnala Tal stay overnight, and process the next day for Barsu village.
➢ Dayara Bugyal is a trek that can be done in all seasons, every season you see the different colors of meadows, flora & fauna which can be a one-of-a-kind experience.
My experience as a Trek Leader and all the challenges we all overcame throughout the trek.
I was leading four trekkers three of them came from Bangalore and one from Delhi. Among all two trekkers were experiencing trekking for the first time so I made sure they felt comfortable during the trek, giving some extra attention to them, guiding time to time. all of them wanted to see snowfall everyone was asking me if we could get snowfall or not though I was also not sure about that, just to make them happy I said you might get snow on the trail to my surprise while descending down after reaching “Chhani (shepherds hut) it started snowing they all got so excited, that was the moment I cherished a lot in the whole trek.
I personally loved the Dayara Bugyal trek from start to end, the reason being you get to experience different kinds of terrain, on the trail you will see silver oak, maple trees, rhododendron flowers in spring, also snow in vast meadows of Dayara in winter.
Conclusion
Dayara Bugyal trek is one of the most beautiful treks in Uttarakhand, the meadows are an elevation of 10,000 feet and after tree line, you start to see majestic summits of the Gangotri range, including Bandarpunch, Kala Nag, Srikanth, Jaonli, and Draupadi Ka Danda, so close that you will feel you can almost touch them. A total of 20 km of this trek will leave you in awe every day in different base camp, one of my favorite bases Gui start from Raithal village, The Gui campsite is in meadows surrounded by trees. For the best sunset spot, you can hike up a little to Chhani (shepherd hut) in Chilapada base camp.
One can easily do this high-altitude trek by just working on your fitness a little especially running 5km in 30 minutes. which will help you a lot. Being a high-altitude trek make sure you properly acclimatize and hydrate yourself by drinking water as much as you can. And properly layer yourself.
Hope I am able to provide all the necessary details through this blog and you can make a plan soon for one of the best High-altitude meadow treks.
