The Arwa Tal is a small lake, part of the Arwa Glacier. It lies at the head of the Arwa stream which originates from the Arwa Glacier. This lake lies along the trekking route of the more famous Kalindi Khal trek across the Gangotri Glacier. The lake is serene and due to its close proximity to the Chinese border permits are required to camp near it. It’s ideal to spend a day near the lake and explore the base of the Arwa Spire and the Chaukhamba group of peaks.
The trek starts from Ghastoli Village in the Alaknanda Valley and slowly proceeds along the Arwa stream. The trek is easy with a few difficult patches. The valley is narrow and has numerous waterfalls cascading down from the left side. Explorers can use this trek to map the nearby peaks and glaciers and plan future treks in this region. The trek ends in Ghastoli.
