Anusuya Devi Temple And Atri Muni Ashram

In India Marriage is believed to be a Holy union of two souls. Out of the millions of such divine Unions, one amongst the most celebrated according to Hindu Mythology are Anusuya Devi also designated as “Devi Sati” and Atri Muni ( One of the Seven Great Sages “ Sapta Rishi “). Anusuya Devi was also known as “Goddess Sati “due to her dedicated divine love towards her Husband. She is said to have always practiced austerities and devotion that allowed her to attain miraculous powers. She is celebrated every year on the occasion of Duttatreya Jayanti by devotes singing “Bhajans” (Devotional Songs )swaying beautiful lanterns all night long. It is a sight to behold. Traditionally Rishi Munis (sages) dwell in Shelters that are called Ashrams where they attain enlightenment by rigorous “Sadhana” (dedicated Practice). One such Ashram is that of Atri Muni located 2 kms from Anusuya Devi Temple. Architecture of this Ashram is carved out in the mountains and is also known as the Cave temple. The Anusuya Devi temple is a must visit destination for pilgrims visiting Kedarnath. As per the Legend ,it is believed that Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh took the form of Anusya Devi’s sons and lived here. This Temple falls in Chamoli district in Uttarkhand and  can be accessed by a 6kms trek from “Mandal” which is a village situated 13 kms from Gopeshwar. The best time to visit this place is throughout the year except for heavy rainfalls months from July to September.
