Jim Corbett is India’s first national park in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. It was named Hailey National Park when it was established in 1936. It was renamed Jim Corbett National Park in 1956 after Jim Corbett a naturalist and hunter who played an important role in the park’s establishment and its development.
It is located in the sub-Himalayan belt along Doon Valley between the Lesser Himalayas and the Siwalik Hills. It covers an area of more than 1200 sq km which has more than 500 sq km of core zone and the rest is the buffer zone. It is home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, Leopards, Asiatic elephants, deer and many more endangered animals and migratory birds. The national park is divided into six different tourist zones with Bijrani zone being the most popular one.
