Camp Hygiene And Sanitation : Essential Camp Hygiene for Health and Safety
Camp hygiene and sanitation are essential to prevent the spread of diseases and protect water sources. They promote overall health, minimize environmental impact, prevent foodborne illnesses, and enhance the camp experience. Additionally, instilling these practices teaches important life skills and ensures compliance with regulations for a safe and enjoyable camp environment.
Personal Hygiene-
- Wash your hands frequently and wash your feet daily after reaching the next campsite
- Brush your Teeth regularly and try regularly sponge bathing, Trim your nails
- Change your socks and underclothes
Air/sun your clothes - Avoid sharing personal belongings
- Use dusting powder in the morning before wearing shoes and socks for the problem of sweating feet.
Culinary Hygiene-
- Wash your hands before touching any foods
- Use clean utensils, after washing with soap food handlers should take special precautions to store food properly
Medical Hygiene – - Avoiding of overcrowding
- Avoiding spitting unnecessarily
- Refraining from tobacco, alcohol, and intoxicating
Sanitation:-
Water-
- Use a Filter to remove cloudiness
- Do not drink the last remaining water from the bottle
- Use a life Straw to drink water
- Always boil for 20 minutes
- Use water sterilization tablets ( chlorine)
- Store water in clean containers
Living Area-
- Should well ventilated, should be well drained • Avoid overcrowding
- Away from the kitchen and dining area
- Away from the toilet and washing area
Kitchen And Waste Disposed-
- Preferably close to a clean water source
- Proper dishwashing facility, use little soap, 200ft away from water bodies
- Wastewater to be disposed of over the soil
- Waste pit for disposing of uneaten food
- Garbage disposed of at least 90 feet away
Toilets-
- Mark a flat area at least 200 ft from water bodies and 300ft from Campsite
- Dig a minimum 1-foot deep pit ( cathole )
- Use it, and cover it -CAT Hygiene ( leave No
trace) - Do not use wet wipes instead, you can use toilet papers
- Wash hands properly
- If camping in the snow, deep pits required
Campsite-
- Close to a clean water source
- Away from garbage disposed of sites
- Away from animal-rearing areas
- Avoid camping under trees
