Miyar Valley Trek is situated in the Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh. Miyar Valley is a remote valley located at the western end of Lahaul and Spiti district. the valley extends approximately 74 km from Udaipur to Kang La. Miyar Valley is popular for its wildlife like snow leopards, and black bears. the starting point of this trek is Khanjer which is the last village of this trek which you can reach via vehicle. the main highlight of this trek are vast beautiful meadows tall snow-capped peaks boulders trail and a river alongside the trail Miyar River from the Miyar glacier and the origin point of this river is Kang La Jot the valley is home to 13 small villages and the river is a main source of water of these villagers for agriculture and daily life uses The local villagers mainly grow iceberg lettuce, apples,s eed potatoes, sea buckthorns, cauliflowers, barley, asafoetida, and medicinal plants such as Kuth, mannu.

The Miyar Valley is an easy-to-moderate level trek. The lower section of the region has meadows and villages. This section is easy and simple. The trek became a bit difficult in the higher sections. You can see rocky patches and glacial streams in the higher zones.
Your Miyar Valley trek starts from Khanjar, which has an altitude of 3500 m. The height of the valley increases very gradually. Most of the valley has less than 4000 m elevation. The risk of getting AMS is low. But the trekkers should walk slowly and keep themselves hydrated.
The Miyar Valley Trek is about 60 km long. The trek is usually 6-9 days long. You will walk for about 10 km daily. The average walking hours are around 6-7. It is manageable as the trail is easy.
The weather can change at any time during the trek. This region receives less rain, but it can happen anytime. You can get rain in the lower sections and snowfall in the higher sections. The winds blowing from the Himalayas are very chilly.

Delhi to Manali: Manali has good connectivity from Delhi. You can find lots of government and private buses to Manali. Take an overnight bus and reach Manali by the morning. The distance is around 500 km and will take about 10 hours.
Manali to Shukto / Khanjar: There is no direct bus to Shukto. You can take a bus to Keylong and then take a shared taxi to Shukto. The distance is about 200 km and will take about 9 hours.

Clothing and Backpack
Look for a good backpack (60L) with a rain cover. Your backpack should provide good back support. Now get a small daypack (20L) for small hikes. Pack 2-3 quick-dry t-shirts and 2 trekking pants. Carry 1-2 pairs of thermals for the night. Pack a light woolen sweater and a down jacket. You should also pack a rain jacket. Get a woolen cap and a pair of gloves. Pack a suncap for daytime.
Footwear
You need a good pair of trekking shoes. Look for steady and comfortable shoes. Do not pack a new pair of shoes for trekking. Your feet must be familiar with your shoes. Now pack 4 pairs of cotton socks and 2 pairs of woolen socks. Pack a pair of sandals for the campsites.
Personal Care
Pack your toiletries in a small zipper bag. Now get 2 water bottles (1 plastic bottle + 1 thermos) to keep yourself hydrated. Get a quick-dry towel and a toilet paper roll. You should pack SPF50+ sunscreen to protect your skin from sunburn. Get a good moisturizer for dry skin and lip balm for chapped lips. You should make a small first-aid kit with all basic medicines. You should also carry insect repellent.
Plan your trek in the ideal season.
You can plan your Miyar Valley Trek from May to October. But the landscape of the valley changes with the seasons. Plan the trek in summer for greenery. If you like wildflowers, then trek the valley in August. Autumn is also very beautiful with golden hues.
Transportation
Your trek to Miyar Valley starts from Shukto or Khanjar. These are remote villages and have very limited transportation. If you are planning the trek, then look for transportation in advance. You can hire a taxi as the public transport is very limited.
Acclimatization
The Miyar Valley altitude is usually below 4000 m. The chances of getting AMS are low. But if you are not familiar with the Himalayan region, then you should acclimatize to prevent any AMS symptoms. You should stay hydrated and keep a slow pace.
Be cautious in tough terrains.
Most sections of Miyar Valley are easy. You can easily cross the plain meadows and village areas. But you should be careful while crossing the streams. Do not cross fast-flowing streams without guidance.
Day 1: Manali to Khanjer
Drive Distance 135km
Drive Duration 6 to 7 hours
The first day starts from Manali and drives to Khanjer, the journey passes through the Atal tunnel alongside the Chenab River which takes you to the different ranges of mountains and the changes in the vegetation when you passed through Atal tunnel and vast view of snow-capped peaks, on the way you will witness of beautiful Sissu lake and Sissu waterfall and going further passed through Tunde village which is famous for pilgrimage sight of Trilok Nath mandir which is dedicated to lord Shiva after that you will be reached Khanjer, the starting point of your trek
Day 2: Kanjeer to Yolling

Trek time 4 to 5 Hours
Altitude 3505m to 3750m
Start your day early in the morning the trail towards the yolling campsite is gradually ascent. when you reach the campsite, you will witness of water stream nearby the campsite, flat meadow people are also bouldering there
Day 3: Yolling to Zardong
Trek Distance 11km
Trek Duration 5 to 6 hours
Altitude 3750m to 3840m
This day is more challenging compared to other days so start your trek early in the morning. the trek of this day starts with a gradual ascent then descent to the bridge and trek further you will reach Gompa where you will see gompa lake going further the trek route will change to a rocky boulder trail until you will reach the campsite
Day 4: Zardong to Palpu

Trek Duration 6 hours
Altitude 3840m to 3895m
The trail from Zardong to Palpu is easy as compared to other days and the trail is along side of the river which makes it more beautiful nad on the way to Paplu you will witness of beautiful snow-capped peaks, after reaching the campsite go for the acclimatization walk to the nearest glacier and while coming back to the campsite you will witness of crossing two rivers
Day 5: Palpu to Gompa

The way from Paplu to Gompa is very scenic and you will trek through the vast meadows and rocky trail, the stunning views of the Zanskar range when you reach the campsite a beautiful lake near the campsite you will see and the lake is known for the reflection of surrounded peaks during sunrise
Day 6: Gompa to Tharang

Altitude 3909m to 3724m
have your breakfast and move towards Tharang the trail will be flat alongside the river, reach the campsite in Tharang. Tharang is also the base camp of Tharang Peak which is above 6000m
Day 7: Tharang to Kanjeer and Drive back to Manali

TRANSPORTATION - Drive from Manali to Khanjer. Pick-up time 6:30 am,
Last Day: Drive from Khanjer to Manali. Expect to reach Manali by 7:30 PM.
ACCOMMODATION – At Base Camp stay at a local homestay or guest house for one night each which will give you an insight into the authentic lifestyle of the locals.
On Trek stay in a 2 person Vango Halo Pro / A-Shape tents which is to be shared by two trekkers built to withstand extreme weather conditions and at the same time making you comfortable after a hard day’s trek.
CAMPING EQUIPMENT – a specially designed sleeping bags which can withstand harsh weather conditions, foam mattresses. Other safety gear like micro spikers, gaiters, ice axe and helmets will be provided.
MEDICAL KIT – our team will be equipped with an extensive medical kit which our team is trained and experienced to use. Oxygen cylinders are used after they are thoroughly inspected throughout the Trek. Even campsites have large oxygen cylinders as backups.
MEALS – Breakfast, packed lunch (on trek days), evening snacks and dinner will be served. A hearty delicious and nutrition filled Veg meals with egg preparation will be provided throughout the trek.
Jain and Vegan Food can also be arranged on prior notification.
There will be a dedicated Kitchen Tent along with a dining tent which will have a dining table too.
OUR TEAM – A highly experienced and AMC certified Trek Leader which will help ensure that the entire trek goes smoothly and safely while navigating the challenging conditions during the trek and skillful enough to navigate any medical emergency that can arise during the trek.
Local and route Guides who are well versed with the region and provide with an in-depth insight into the local customs and knowledge of the flora and fauna endemic to the region.
A dedicated Kitchen staff which includes a Cook, a helper and other support staff. There will also be porter and mules to carry common equipment’s.
CLOAKROOM - We have a cloakroom facility available for extra luggage. Every trekker is permitted to leave behind their luggage at no charge.
Trek Exclusions
Travel Expenses – Travel expenses from your hometown to the mentioned Pick-Up Point are not included in the trek fee.
From the scheduled pick-up spot to the base camp, we have our own fleet of vehicles like Bolero, Innova, Dezire or Tempo Traveler (12-seater). This is be shared by trekkers for a pre decided amount. All vehicles are non-AC.
Personal Equipment – Any personal gear like jackets, shoes, cutlery (tiffin box / mug), backpacks are not included in the trek fee. We recommend renting them from our Rental Store for an affordable fee this can be pre-arranged to avoid last minute hang ups.
Offloading – We encourage carrying your backpack to get into the true spirit of trekking. However, if needed, you can opt to offload your personal luggage of up to 12 kgs for an additional cost of INR 500 per bag per day.
Trek Insurance – A mandatory trek insurance fee is charged in addition to your trek fee. Since most medical insurance doesn’t cover adventure activities trek insurance offers essential coverage, enhancing your safety without a significant financial burden.
Buffer day on the trek – We have kept a buffer day on the trek to account for any weather-related delay. If this is utilized, you will need to pay an extra amount to your trek leader.
