Gurez Valley, also known as Gurais Valley, is a picturesque and remote trek located in the northern part of the Indian-administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated in the high Himalayan mountains, surrounded by majestic peaks, dense forests, and pristine rivers. Gurez Valley trek is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty. It is flanked by snow-capped mountains that remain covered in snow for a significant part of the year. The Kishenganga River, also known as the Neelum River in Pakistan, flows through the valley, adding to its scenic charm. The inhabitants of Gurez Valley primarily consist of the Dard Shina-speaking people, who have their own unique cultural traditions, distinct from the rest of the region. They are warm and hospitable, with a rich oral tradition of folklore and music.

Gurez Valley Trek Itinerary

Begin your journey early in the morning from Srinagar and have breakfast in the middle of the way After breakfast, resume your journey towards Gurez Valley. The road takes you through scenic landscapes, following the Kishenganga River. Arrive in Dawar, the administrative headquarters of Gurez Valley. Check in to your accommodation and freshen up.

Depart from Dawar in the morning to embark on your trek to Dison. This trek offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the Kishenganga River. Arrive in Dison, a small village in Gurez Valley. and stay overnight there

  • Altitude- 7,870 ft to 10,340 ft

Start your day with a nutritious breakfast in Dison.Embark on your trek from Dison towards Khaari via Dawar Heights. The trail will lead you through picturesque landscapes, including forests, meadows, and possibly some small settlements. The trail will likely include an ascent to Dawar Heights, which offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

  • Altitude- 10,340 ft to 11,300 ft via 11,722 ft

Start your day with a hearty breakfast in Khaari then begin your trek towards Patalwansar I Lake The trail may take you through meadows, forests, and possibly rocky terrain route to Patalwansar I Lake, you’ll first come across Patalwansar II. Take some time to rest and enjoy the serene surroundings. and stay overnight there

  • Aitude- 11,300 ft to 12,650 ft via 12,795 ft

Start your trek towards Dison. The trail may offer new perspectives on the landscape, so take your time to appreciate the scenery. Arrive back in Dison and stay overnight there

  • Altitude- 12,650 ft to 10,340 ft

Begin your trek back to Dawar from Dison. Retrace your steps through the beautiful landscapes, enjoying the scenery along the way. Arrive back in Dawa and prepare for your journey back to Srinagar

  6. Please carry a lunch box for packed lunch/breakfast to avoid using polythenes and Aluminium foils. Keeping the Himalayas clean is our own responsibility. Reduce the use of Plastic when you are in the abode of the Sacred Himalaya. 🌱
