GHT Uttarakhand Himachal Pradesh And Ladakh Itinerary

Trek 6–7 km through pine and oak forests to reach the meadows of Dayara Thatch, a campsite surrounded by towering peaks.

A 4-5 km trek through open grasslands and streams leads to Litham and offers a panoramic views of the Dhauladhar range.

Undertake a 6 km round trip to the glacial Chandranahan Lake. This acclimatization hike helps prepare for higher altitudes ahead.

Trek 4–5 km to Dhunda, a campsite located amidst snow-clad mountains and serves as the base for the Buran Pass ascent.

The most challenging one. It covers approximately 8 km. Ascend to the Buran Pass, then descend steeply to Munirang (11,100 ft). The descent may involve rappelling down a snow wall, needs technical help or rope and harness.

We drive for about 45 minutes to reach the Kye Monastery. View the morning prayers and drive onward to the road head for our trek. Today is a short walk through gradual slopes. We camp next to a small stream in the Chicham fields.

A gradual ascent of approx. 400m brings us to a vast plateau above the Thaltak Meadows. Harsh, stark beauty all around today with great views of Kanamo Peak en route. We descend from the plateau to camp in the bowl-shaped meadows.

A relatively long day today. We start with a steep descent into the Paralungbi Gorge, follow it upstream to Jagtha, and start climbing up on the scree laden path to the base of Parang La.

After an early breakfast, start the climb to the top of the pass. The walk is gradual at first and then turns steep in the last 2 hours. From the top (5580M), view the peaks of Ladakh, the Changthang valley, the Parilungi peak and the source of the Pare Chu River. Cross over to the wide, undulating plains of Ladakh. We descend onto the glacier and carefully make our way across a few river crossings before we reach camp.

We continue on the wide plains of the Changthang on a wide trail. We camp on the left bank of the Pare Chu river bed. The days get easier as we lose altitude

Another day of walking on similar terrain reaching Racholamo in the mid-afternoon. Lots of time to take in the surroundings and take some wide sweeping pictures of the majestic plains.

We start the day early to ford the Norbu Sumdo River and across to Chumik Shilde. Norbu Sumdo was the meeting ground of kings from both sides- Ladakh and Spiti. The river goes onward to flow in Tibet. We cross the river and trek on till we reach one of the most beautiful campsites on this trail – spring water and meadows with plenty of grass and wild flowers all around. We get our first views of the TsoMoriri from Chumik Shilde.

Walk across mostly flat land to reach the edges of the lake. The camp is named after the Kiangs (wild Tibetan asses) that roam uninhibitedly here. The lake is a nesting ground for many rare migratory birds.

A long day to drive out by dirt track to Karzog and then onwards to Leh to reach by late evening.

Continuously but gradually ascending the trail as you trek alongside the river—a small river crossing just before entering the Delta region.

Continuously but gradually ascending the trail as you trek alongside the river—a small river crossing just before entering the Delta region.

The most challenging and adventurous day of the trek. Initial ascent to reach the alpine lake followed by a glacier walk led to a steep ascent to the pass. A gently sloping, snowy 30-minute walk brings you to a sharp descent and a series of switchbacks, followed by a 2 km walk on the Bracken glacier. Trek through rocky moraines for over 3 hours before finally reaching a steady path leading to the campsite in the Kaintal meadows.

Long walks on the vast expanse of meadows with few easy river crossings in between. The trail goes through slight overhangs and ascent as your approach the bend taking you to Humpet.

The initial climb was followed by continuous descent for about 3.5 hours. There are times, for brief moments, the trail hangs directly over small landslides and tricky sections that lead to the river. This is followed by an undulating trail which culminates in another descent for a couple of hours.
