Nandi Kund Trek Overview

Nandi Kund Trek is located in the northeast Garhwal area and combines natural beauty, religious feeling, and thrill. This trek is at a height of 8850 m and finds itself nestled with towering snow-capped peaks and enchanting greenery around, and all these are dominated by Chaukhamba all through the trek. Nandi Kund is calm water crystal clear which gives the majestic look of the peaks and thus, has a very soothing and tranquil atmosphere. The Nandi Kund trek is a spiritually rewarding trek situated in the Garhwal Himalayas part which is still not explored fully by the trekkers. Starting from the source of river Ganga known as Nandi Kund to the challenging Ghiya Vinayak Pass, this trek is going to be an experience on its own. No matter if one is an experienced trekker or a believer in spirituality, Nandi Kund Trek, is one of the commendable treks.

How Does Each Day Look

- Complete day-wise Itinerary

Day 2: Sagar to Panar Bugyal

  • Activity: It is a tiresome 14 km trek from Sagar to Panar Bugyal that is covered by the trekkers in nearly 5-6 hours.
  • Stay: Panar Bugyal has provided campsites.
  • Highlights: Climb, forests and meadows, beautiful campsite at Panar Bugyal.

Day 3: Panar Bugyal to Rudranath

Today’s trek was comparatively shorter than planned and would cover a distance of 10 kilometers to reach Rudranath

  • Activity: Trek from Panar Bugyal to Rudranath
  • Stay: Tent accommodation or lodge in Rudranath
  • Highlights: Rudranath temple which is one of Panch Kedars, sight of Chaukhamba.

Day 4: Rudranath to Urgram Village

Activity: Trek from Rudranath to Urgram Village, the distance of 10 km can be covered easily in 3 days.

Stay: Holiday home in Urgram Village

Highlights: Forests, the beautiful village stopover.

Day 5: Urgram Village to Kalpeshwar

Activity: Hike a distance of 2 km from Urgram Village to Kalpeshwar

Stay: Residence or tent at Kalpeshwar

Highlights: Kalpeshwar Temple another Panch Kedar, Urgam valley.

Day 6: Kalpeshwar to Dumak

Activity: They have to trek 10 km from Kalpeshwar to Dumak.

Stay: Camp in Dumak

Highlights: They stroll in the villages and forests, and meet people.

Day 7: Dumak to Nandi Kund

Activity: Hike 12 km from the town of Dumak to Nandi Kund

Stay: Tent stays at Nandi Kund

Highlights: Reach the calm and beautiful Nandi Kund and have the Chaukhamba ranges reflected on the water body.

Day 8: Exploration of Nandi Kund

Activity: Discover to close and befriend Nandi Kund and points of interest.

Stay: A camp is set at Nandi Kund.

Highlights: Spend time on the lake, and the lore regarding the lake and woods.

Day 9: Nandi Kund to Ghiya Vinayak Pass to Bansi Narayan

Activity: Trek with 12 km From Nandi Kund to Ghiya Vinayak Pass and then to Bansi Narayan

Stay: That’s why they camp their rajas and maharajas at Bansi Narayan.

Highlights: Exciting trek to Ghiya Vinayak Pass, bird’s eye view of Nanda Devi, and other snow-clad mountains.

Day 10: Bansi Narayan to Dumak

Activity: Return from Bansi Narayan to Dumak by a 12 km trekking

Stay: A camp or a guest house in Dumak

Highlights: Return journey with more beautiful views I guess.

Day 11: Dumak to Kalpeshwar

Activity: Retreat from Dumak back to Kalpeshwar by a 10 km trekking

Stay: Tent accommodation in Kalpeshwar or a guest house.

Highlights: It is suggested that visitors go to Kalpeshwar and spend some time in the calm surrounding area.

Day 12: Kalpeshwar to Urgram Village

Activity: 12 km Hike from Kalpeshwar to Rudranath via Urgram.

Stay: Comparison for lodging: Interestingly, ancient Hindu scriptures refer to a camp in Rudranath.

Highlights: Carry on with an adventurous tour, and visit Rudranath Temple again.

Day 13: Rudranath to Panar Bugyal

Activity: Proceed back and forth from Rudranath to Panar Bugyal; 10 km

Stay: This one is probably the most challenging; however, it is also the most rewarding, as it is concerned with camping at Panar Bugyals.

Highlights: See the beautiful burials one more time.

Day 14: Panar Bugyal to Sagar

Activity: Return with a 12 km trekking from Panar Bugyal to Sagar

Stay: In Sagar have a guesthouse or camp

Highlights: Finishing the trek and feeling that it was all worth it.

Day 15: Sagar to Rishikesh/Dehradun

Activity: Proceed on a drive back to Rishikesh/Dehradun with a drive of approx 219 km(259 km for Dehradun).

The nearest airport to Nandi Kund Lake is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Joshimath, which serves as the base camp for the trek to Nandi Kund Lake.
