Skiing is a popular sport during winters in which one glides on snow using skis attached to their feet and poles to maintain balance and control speed.
Skiing in India- Where You Can Go-
Several places in India offer opportunities for skiing. Some popular destinations in India include:
1. Jammu and Kashmir: Gulmarg and Pahalgam
J&K has always been the best place to ski in India. It is heaven on earth and imagine skiing like a bird/penguin in a slice of heaven! Do you know why has it been crowned the best? Firstly, Kashmir has beautiful high-altitude slopes which are perfect for skiing. Secondly, Gulmarg is the world’s third-highest ski resort while Pahalgam is home to the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and winter sports. This is where you will find Skiing courses in India. Thirdly, The Apharwat Peak at an altitude of 4390 m is the longest ski slope in Asia. Perhaps, it is safe to say Jammu and Kashmir is worth it for skiing.
2. Uttarakhand: Auli, Dayara Bugyal and Mandali
If there’s anything mountains and snow, Uttarakhand is always on the list and always amongst the top. Uttarakhand has some of the best ski resorts in India. Auli is certainly most famous for its ski slopes and is known to be the second-best skiing spot in India. Two more beautiful skiing destinations in Uttarakhand are Bugyal and Mandali. Both of these are less known but offer a great experience to skiers. It is important to note that the ski slopes of Mandali are a little more steep perhaps, more challenging. So, if you hold experience and proficceincy in skiing, Mandali is a great Skiing spot in India for you. Otherwise, try Bugayal or Auli! Which are undoubtedly, no less.
3. Himachal Pradesh: Manali, Salong Valley, Narkanda
Himachal Pradesh is home to three Skiing spots in India. Manali is amongst the most popular ones and Salong Valley and Narkanda are amongst the lesser known. Skiers are gifted with 360-degree views of snow-capped mountains and an abundance of skiing courses in India available across these three destinations. Here, you will find many more winter sports like snowboarding, ice skating, and sledding. One can enroll in ski courses or even do a day’s ski here.
Price Range of Skiing in India
The price of skiing in India differs depending on various factors such as location and the duration/type of skiing activity you choose to do.
Generally, the cost includes ski equipment, lifting charges, training fees, and more. Skiing in India can cost anywhere from a thousand rupees to a few lakhs. For example, a day’s ski activity might cost you around 2,000 while a ski course in India starts from Rs.10,000. These prices are the minimum and starting prices. It is recommended to check the prices on the web and book in advance to steal the best deals.
