The pass remains covered in heavy snow during winter and often requires the special machinery to clean the route. It serves as a crucial lifeline for Ladakh that ensures the supply of essential goods. Unlike the longer Pahalgam route, this trek is steepy and requires patience. The valley is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and the Sindh River and creates a stunning backdrop for trekkers. During the Amarnath Yatra, many pilgrims take this route, often using ponies or palkis for assistance. Outside the pilgrimage season, the valley remains a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and offers camping opportunities under a starlit sky amidst the Himalayas.

Lakes: There are many beautiful lakes to see on Sonamarg trekking. By beginning the trekking from Gulmarg to Sonamarg, you will enjoy views of lakes like Vishansar Lake and Krishansar Lake. Trekkers start in Gulmarg’s lush meadows, pass through dense pine forests and climb high mountains before descending into Sonamarg’s snow-covered valleys. Vishansar Lake, about 35 km away, is a stunning alpine lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains and green meadows, while nearby Kishansar Lake is encircled by high peaks and looks amazing in summer. Tourists also visit Gangabal Lake, a hidden gem at the foothills of Mount Harmukh and Satsar Lake, a group of seven interconnected lakes on the famous Kashmir Great Lakes trek.
