CAREERS WITH US

Who doesn’t like to work in the mountains? Who doesn’t want to work for the mountains? Everybody does, right? But are they all aware of the responsibilities associated with this? Are they all fit enough to perform the required tasks to justify their role in the mountains? Sadly, the answer is “no.”.

In the past few years, youngsters getting inspired by Bollywood and Hollywood movies look at the Himalayas as a place to escape from their boring corporate lives and as a place to have fun without worrying about anything. Such misconceptions have caused great harm to Mother Nature and the Himalayas. Tons of plastic have been deposited in such sacred mountains. Apart from these, there are a number of nuisances that they have brought to the mountains by irresponsible trekkers, trek leaders, and money-hungry trek organizers.

At the same time, there are a few humble travelers and trekkers who hold a strong belief in their hearts that the Himalaya is a living entity, and as the children of Mother Nature, it is our responsibility to live in harmony with all the aspects of Mother Nature. It delights our hearts when we find someone who shares the same belief. In all our new recruits, want to have this quality in them if they are willing to join Himalaya Shelter.

Moreover, all the designations mentioned below require different skills. We want all our teammates to perform their tasks with the utmost care and mastery.

Trekking in the Himalayas and leading a trek in the Himalayas are two completely different things. Most people come up with the idea that they will be able to enjoy the trek the same way they enjoyed it as trekkers, which is actually not true.

Earlier, when you were a trekker, all your needs for food, accommodation, transportation, bag offloading, and other things were taken care of by the team. As a trek leader, you will be the one who leads the trekkers and takes care of their necessities and those of your team. This job demands complete attention and maturity. Only a person who can take responsibility for these lives can be a good trek leader.

In order to join Himalaya Shelter as a Trek Leader, there are certain qualities and qualifications that you have to have.

  • Advanced mountaineering Course (AMC) or Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) from a reputed institute with a distinction grade
  • Good command over Hindi and English
  • Polite and calm nature
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Leadership quality

Please note that before we can recognize you as a Trek Leader, you will have to work as an Assistant Trek Leader for at least 6 months. During this period, the senior trek leaders, along with our company director, will train you and observe your work. Once they feel that you fulfill all the criteria to be a trek leader, you will be promoted to trek leader, where you will be allowed to lead the trek.

As an assistant trek leader, your responsibility will be to get yourself trained as per the guidance of your senior trek leaders while taking the utmost care of the team.

You must keep in mind that we want each of our team members to perform all the tasks that fall their way. In order to maintain smooth operations, we have kept different designations so that all the teammates can perform their duties with thorough clarity and perfection. However, that doesn’t mean that you will not lend a helping hand to your other teammate.

We respect our trekkers a lot, and we never ask them to pitch up and wind up the tents on their own in the name of learning sessions. If they are willing to learn this task (which is an art in itself as per our beliefs), they can participate. Otherwise, it will be your responsibility to pitch the tents for them. Of course, there will be one or two helpers to help you with that.
