After breakfast, drive to Tehri. Known for its impressive height of 260.5 m (855 ft), Tehri Dam stands as the tallest in India and 12th in the world. Spend the night at New Tehri Guesthouse. Engage in thrilling water sports at Tehri Dam, including boating, kayaking, parasailing, jet skiing (water scooter), and swimming in Tehri Lake.
Embark on a scenic drive to Harshil via Uttarkashi, exploring Kashivishwnath Temple and the renowned NIM, India’s premier Mountaineering Institute. En route, experience the rejuvenating hot water spring at Gangnani. Conclude the day with an overnight stay at the welcoming Harshil Guest House.
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Nelong Valley, often referred to as the Ladakh of Uttarakhand. Opened for tourists in 2015, it mirrors Ladakh’s high peaks, climate, and Lahaul, Spiti Valley-like landscapes. The cold, deserted expanse resembles Tibet’s geography and is part of Gangotri National Park. Overnight stays are restricted within 25 km between Bhairavghati and Nelong. Explore Gartang Gali, a cliff-side hanging stairway at a height of 11,000 feet, once a Silk Road trade route. Its 500-meter-long wooden structure offers stunning views of the Nelang Valley. Conclude the day with an overnight stay in Gangotri.
After breakfast, visit Gangotri Temple and embark on a 9 km trek to Chirbasa. Settle in for the night at the Chirbasa campsite, surrounded by the serene beauty of the Himalayas.
Trek to Gaumukh, also known as “Gomukh” or “Gomukhi.” It’s the terminus of the Gangotri Glacier, the source of the Bhagirathi River, a key headstream of the Ganga. Gomukh translates to “Mouth of a Cow” and is the second-largest glacier in India, spanning 30 km in length and 4 km in width, after Siachen. Marvel at the Himalayan peaks like Shivling, Sudarshan, Meru, Bhagirathi sisters, Kharchkund, and more during this captivating trek. The trail to Gaumukh welcomes trekkers and pilgrims from May to October. Gangotri National Park closes during winter due to heavy snowfall. Return to Chirbasa for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, drive to Rishikesh via Vashishta Gufa. In Hindu mythology, Sage Vashishta contemplated suicide in the Ganges after losing his children, but Goddess Ganga refused. Enchanted by the location, his wife Arundhati decided to stay. Sage Vashishta meditated in a cave here for an extended period. Enjoy an overnight stay at a Rishikesh guesthouse.
